Nigeria to probe block sale to Shell, Eni

Lagos—The Nigerian Senate has voted to investigate the controversial sale of a deepwater oil license to a consortium of Shell and Italy’s Eni, a parliament spokesman said July 20. The upper house will set up an ad-hoc committee that will look into the sale of block OPL 245 to the two companies last year following protests from rights groups in May that the process was not transparent, a spokesman for the Senate president said.
