US gas storage surplus remains at record despite draw

Houston—US gas storage inventories remain at record levels for this time of year as the Energy Information Administration reported a lower-than-expected withdrawal December 29. Stocks fell 81 Bcf to 3.548 Tcf for the week that ended December 23, EIA said, beating the previous record for the comparable week of 3.276 Tcf set in 2009. Stockpiles in the East, reported December 29 at 1.892 Tcf, also hit a new high for this time of year, besting the 1.779-Tcf record set two years ago.
