New York-US ethanol producer Aventine Renewable Energy Holdings said March 16 it has emerged from bankruptcy, appointed new officers and plans to restart construction of two ethanol plants that were put on hold. Aventine last April said it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection (ON 4/9/09). The company pointed to imbalanced ethanol supplies and poor operating margins in a market flooded with cheap gasoline. It also blamed the use by blenders of Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs), a type of credit that may be purchased to cover their requirements without using ethanol.
