Washington-The chief economist at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission is departing early next year, leaving a key post that can now be filled by Democrats who favor tighter regulation of financial markets. A CFTC spokesman said no firm departure date has been confirmed for Jeffrey Harris, who has held his post since September 2007. Harris has been on leave as a finance professor at the University of Delaware and is scheduled to teach in the Spring semester that starts February 8.
