New York—New York Mercantile Exchange May crude sank $3.97 to settle at $48.41/barrel March 30 in a broad-based sell-off across the commodity complex that was triggered by equity market losses and a somewhat firmer tone to the US dollar.“The oil complex was pummeled to the down side today with the usual suspects of a hard sell-off in the equities and a significant strengthening in the US dollar contributing to the bulk of the decline,” independent energy analyst Jim Ritterbusch said in a report. “Selling appeared to accelerate as round number support at the $50 level was violated.”
