London-Global oil demand will rise more slowly than expected this year as Hurricane Katrina trims consumption in the US and surging prices cut use in Asia,the International Energy Agency said Sep 9.Demand will grow by 1.35-mil b/d,250,000 b/d less than earlier expected,the IEA,an adviser to 26 countries,said in a monthly report.The IEA also cut a forecast for non-OPEC supply growth in 2005 by 26% to 500,000 b/d after Katrina damaged US Gulf oil platforms,likely reducing output for months.
