German Field Keeps Going

Wintershall, the upstream arm of German chemicals group BASF, said its Emlichheim field near the German- Dutch border has produced its ten-millionth ton of crude oil. The field, which started production in 1944 and is one of Germany’s oldest, currently produces 3,200 barrels of crude per day (160,000 tons per year) from 95 wells, and is set for another 20 or more years of production thanks to the use of steam flooding and horizontal drilling.
