Ecuador to pay out $980m

Ecuador has agreed to pay Occidental Petroleum around US $980m by April this year as compensa- tion for seizing its Block 5 oil field in the country, Ecuador’s Attorney General said. Attorney General Diego Garcia said the country was obligated to pay Occidental. If it does not pay the arbitration award, Ecuador could be exposed to asset seizures.
