China's refining throughput rose by 3.1% compared to last year to reach 9.71 million b/d in October, its highest level in eight months. Compared to September, October's refining throughput jumped by 270,000 b/d (IOD Oct.21'13). The increase occurred despite Chinese crude imports falling to their lowest level in more than a year and two refineries going off line for turnarounds. Crude imports plunged by 1.45 million b/d in October from September's record high volumes of 6.28 million b/d. Around mid-October, a total of 640,000 b/d of refining capacity from two Sinopec refineries--Maoming and Fujian--began turnarounds that are likely to last for the usual 40-50 days.
