Reliance Told to Drill More Wells in India's Biggest Gas Field

India has asked Reliance Industries to dril 11 new wells by the end of March next year to boost production from its KG-D6 Block, home to the country's biggest gas fields. Output from the Dhirubhai-1 and -3 fields, in the Krishna-Godavari Basin offshore eastern India, has been dropping steadily after hitting a high of 53 million cubic meters per day in March last year (IOD Apr.26,p3). It is now averaging less than 42 MMcm/d, well down on the 61.88 MMcm/d the fields were supposed to be producing. A further 8 MMcm/d comes from the MA field in the same block, taking KG-D6's total output to about 50 MMcm/d.
