Vancouver-based Africa Oil has contracted a drilling rig to spud the first well in Somalia in over 20 years. The Canadian explorer, an affiliate of the Lundin group, said it will target two prospects in the autonomous Punt-land region of northeastern Somalia with total gross best estimated resources of 300 million bbl each. No oil exploration has occurred in Somalia since the central government collapsed in 1990.
