As opposition to US ethanol subsidies continues to mount, eight US senators have launched a compromise initiative that would preserve the credits, but reduce them significantly while also increasing public funding to promote production of advanced biofuels. The senators -mostly from corn and ethanol-producing states in the Midwest -have suggested a drastic reduction in the ethanol blender's credit to 20¢ per gallon in 2012 and 15¢ in 2013, down from 45¢ at present.
