BP has reached a settlement on liabilities relat-ing to last year’s disastrous oil spill withAnadarko Petroleum, which held a 25% nonop-erating stake in the ill-fated Macondo well in theUS Gulf of Mexico.US-based Anadarko has agreed to pay BP $4billion in cash in return for indemnificationagainst further claims, including fines related tothe US Oil Pollution Act (OPA) as well as naturalresource damage under the joint operatingagreement. The company will also transfer its25% interest in Mississippi Canyon Block 252,the site of the Macondo well, to BP.
