Bangladesh Finds Gas

State-run Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration (Bapex) has discovered gas in the Sun-dalpur field in southern Bangladesh's Noakhali district. Volumes have still to be determined, but Bapex Managing Director Mortuza Ahmad Faruque said the field will be "commercially viable," and production of 10 MMcf/d-12 MMcf/d can be expected. Reserves should be determined in the next week after data on gas flows and pressure are analyzed, Faruque told International Oil Daily on Thursday. The field will likely come on line next March, he said, adding that Bapex plans to develop it on its own. He said the output will meet Bangladesh's industrial and domestic needs, and will also be processed into compressed natural gas.
