Japanese refiner Idemitsu Kosan is ex- panding into the US West Coast with the ac- quisition of New West Petroleum, a US wholesaler of oil products. Idemitsu said Thursday the move builds on its plan to en- ter the petroleum market in the Pacific Rim. A spokesman declined to reveal the transac- tion value, but said New West trades about 34,000 b/d of products — mainly gasoline and gas oil. “We already export refined prod- ucts to Asia, Oceania and Mexico and this is the first time we are entering the US market,” he said. Idemitsu will continue to procure oil products from US refineries but may also ship some volumes from Japan to supply New West.
