Iraq has prequalified nine foreign oil companies to bid in its second petroleum licensing round. State oil firms predominate and there is one independent oil company in the group, chosen from 38 applicants. The selected companies, announced on the Ministry of Oil website on Apr. 1, are Russian state Rosneft and Tatneft, Kazakhstan's state Kazmunaigas, state Petrovietnam, Angolan state Sonangol, Pakistan Petroleum, Japan's Jogmec, UK Cairn Energy and Oil India.
