Midrex coal gas DRI deal targets offshore markets

Midrex Technologies Inc. and Synthesis Energy Systems Inc. (SES) have entered into a deal involving the conversion of coal into synthesis gas (syngas) for use in direct-reduced iron (DRI) projects in Asia. Houston-based SES will provide gasification technology, while Midrex will market and execute coal gas-based DRI projects, the companies said in a joint statement July 21.
