GMR seeks declared goods status for natural gas & RLNG

GMR Energy Ltd. has sent a letter to the Petroleum Ministry Seeking 'declared goods' status for natural gas and RLNG, so that a uniform 4% duty can be levied. VAT on natural gas and RLNG varies from state to state and ranges from 4% to 26%. In the process of transportation of RLNG from west to east coast where GMR's power plants are based, the tax element goes up to a massive 29.5%. This makes production of RLNG-based power unviable.
