摘要

These are some of the thoughts and frustrations Connecticut teachers are voicing about teaching science. Today's public school teachers face many challenges, including those placed by state mandated assessment tests and the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Connecticut students in grades 4, 6, 8 and 10 are tested in reading, writing and math. By the 2007-2008 school year, testing will expand to include science. Much of the controversy of NCLB lies not in its worthy goal of reducing the achievement gap between minority and non-minority students and urban, suburban, and rural students, but in its funding and measurement practices. Many educators believe that public funds could be better spent on strengthening minority education and on urban and ruralschools. Many educational leaders and organizations believe that NCLB is not the answer.
