Keeping the power clean

Power quality describes the electrical network's ability to supply a clean and stable power flow acting as a perfect power supply that is always available, has a pure noise-free sinusoidal wave shape, and is always within voltage and frequency tolerances. The main contributors to voltage instability and interference on, or distortion of, the voltage waveform is the flow of reactive power, and the presence of transients and harmonics in the network resulting from the reactive loads and high-power switching circuits connected to it.
