Because the concept of "clean rooms" inhealthcare facilities is to provent nosocomial infections andpostoperative infections, it is very important that they should bedesigned for reduction of the concentration of airborne bacteriarather than for control of airborne dust in the rooms.There is a tendency for hospitals to be evaluated depending onwhether they have special rooms such as bio-clean rooms(sterilization rooms) and bio-clean operation rooms in additionto cleanliness in the whole area of hospitals. Evaluation of thiskind will be one of the factors that have effect on the hospital operations.The local ventilation systems are preferred over the generalventilation systems and are available in various configurations incombination with either laminar or turbulent flow system, eitherpositive or negative pressure system, etc. The design of cleanrooms must be precisely tailored to each of operation, treatmentand isolation rooms on the basis of need to prevent cross-contamination.The purpose of clean rooms in healthcare facilities isprincipally to prevent HCW's and patients from hospital-acquiredinfections so that clan room ventilation systems must beequipped with functions for emergency use and the maintenancework should be periodically done to keep correct performance.The considerations should be taken to the environmentalnuisances including noise.To meet such severe requirements, this section describes tosolve the problems to which many hospitals are now facing.
