The management of patients with metastatic breast cancer involves emphasizing both duration of sur-vival and maintenance (or improvement, if necessary) of quality of life. Quality of life in the management of patients with metastatic breast cancer encompasses several components, including maintaining or improving a patient's performance status and functional status, minimizing the side effects associated with treatment, and controlling and/or preventing the development of disease-related symptoms.
