We have measured the waveforms of sub-picosecond optical pulses propagated in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) using a cross-correlation technique with a time resolution of ~100fs. We have precisely measured the waveforms of sub-picosecond optical pulses used as the input to SOAs. These pulses were created by spectral filtering with optical narrow BPFs. We have compared the measured waveforms with the calculated waveforms taking into account the BPF structures. We have also numerically analyzed waveforms and spectra of sub-picosecond optical pulses propagated in SOAs by the finite difference beam propagation method. The obtained results are similar to the experimental results.
