This thematic issue is devoted to the 2nd German-French Summer School on Electrochemistry and Nanotechnologies, held in Lozari, Corsica (France), 2—7 September 2007. Organized by the University of Provence, the University of Versailles—Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, and the CNRS, the meeting has received the support of academic institutions (German—French University and European Section of the Electrochemical Society) and industrial partners (Thermo Scientific, Tronox GmbH, BioLogic, and Alchimer). The pedagogic committee was composed of 14 professors and researchers with an international recognition in electrochemistry and nanotechnologies. These experts have insured the high quality level of this meeting and have provided a strong scientific support to the young participants. The summer school has grouped 50 scientists originating from nine different countries. During this event, 12 keynote lectures, 9 oral presentations and 24 posters have been presented. It has led, one year after, to this thematic issue of the Comptes Rendus Chimie, in which 10 full papers and 4 reviews reflect the large diversity of the summer school.
