The problem of potassium supply in soils of European Russia has been studied with allowance for their genesis; the content, composition, and crystallochemical features of clay minerals; and physicochemical and other properties responsible for the potassium behavior in the soil. The use of criteria based on the degree of potassium saturation in the soil adsorbing complex and the potassium content in a 0.01 M CaCl_2 is substantiated, and the parameters of optimal, moderate, and low potassium suppliesof soil are discussed.
