The diagnostic system can achieve real-time monitoring and non-contact measurement to detect damage to steelcord conveyor belts. The system uses newly-developed magnetic balanced type sensors and data processing equipment to indicate the location of damage from the splice point. The magnetic balanced type sensor consists of two coils for generating magnetic flux a d one coil for sensing changes in magnetic flux to detect a 2 mm breakage in the steelcord conveyor at a belt speed of 250 m/min. The system can provide diagnosis at an early stage for conditions of the steelcord conveyor belt, indicating the belt changing and repair time.
