This paper proposed the 2-step fast cell search method, in which the detections of FET processing timing and frame timing and identification of scrambling code are independently performed, for broadband multi-carrier CDMA wireless access, and cell search time performance was evaluated by computer simulations for the case that frame timing was detected using the signals before/after FFT. Computer simulation results showed that the minimum cell search time was achieved with the frame timing detection by taking the correlation between the received signal before FFT processing and synchronization channel (SCH) replica assuming SCH was time-multiplexed into the beginning of each frame talking into account the practical complexity of signal processing (the cell detection probability of 90% was accomplished within approximately 51 msec).
