A review of insect and slug damage to white clover (Trifolium repens) in the UK.

Following an introduction to the advantages of growing clover in grasslands and survival problems, surveys of pest damage in the UK and related work in the USA and New Zealand are discussed. Topics include seedling losses, interpretation of pesticide-response information, and weevils (Sitona spp.) and slugs (Deroceras reticulatum) as vectors of viruses and nematodes. Clover seed production, the effects of pests and diseases on clover seed production, and the control of clover pests, are briefly described.
