Air-jet Spinning of Some Indian Cottons Part I : Properties of Air-jet Yarn Compared with Ring Yarn

Air-jet spinning is a new system of yam production becoming popular. Presently restricted mainly to the production of polyester blended yams, air-jet spinning is considered unsuitable for producing 100% cotton yarn. This paper presents a brief reviewof air-jet spinning followed by a report on spinning trial, first of its kind, on Indian cotton varieties. Compared to conventional ring yarns, the air-jet spun yams were found to be poorer in strength, but far superior in evenness and degree of imperfections. It is estimated that to be suitable as warp in weaving, the yam should have 20% higher strength.
