Giant cell tumor of the temporal bone - An unusual presentation

Giant cell tumor (GCT) is a primary bone tumor which occurs mainly in epiphysis of long bones [1]. Only 1-2% of all tumors occur in head and neck region with common sites of involvement being sphenoid, and temporal bone [2,3]. This is a locally aggressive tumor. The rarity of this tumor in head and neck region and relative lack of symptoms for a long period of time often delays the diagnosis. We report a case of large giant cell tumor involving the petrous and squamous parts of the temporal bone with extensive extradural middle cranial fossa involvement presenting as otitis media with effusion.
