Flotation experiments have been carried out using-0.5 mm coal fines obtained from West Bokaro Coal Washery, TISCO by varying the levels of reagents, such as, collector and the frother dosages. Attempts made to analyse the kinetic behaviour of the process indicate that it follows the first-order classical rate equation for the recoveries of ash and non-ash components of the form R = R infinity [l- exp(-kt)]. In the proposed equation, values of the constants R infinity and k, evaluated from the experimental results when, related to the reagent dosages, obey the equation R infinity (or k) = a_1 + a_2 C + a_3F + a_4 C~2 + a 5 F~2 + a_6 CF, Further, the entrainment studies reveal a good dependence of recovery gangue component over the rate of water reporting to the concentrate rather than weight of water, which is usually considered.
