Meeting Summary

Thirty-one houreago, we began a journey of exploration and decision making. Our goal was to explore our future, and our emphasis was to be the economic well-being of individual veterinarians, of the major components of the profession, and of the veterinary profession as a whole. Through 13 formal presentations and 12 major workshops, we have been both depressed and uplifted. We have identified many of the problems we face, discussed many of our current efforts to solve those problems, and proposed creative new solutions. We have identified some of the persons and organizations that should be managing those solutions, but in all too many cases, we have simply left the solution up to some nebulous "they should." And we did not seta time frame for action on any issue or solution. Perhaps that is as it should be because, from the opening bell; AVMA President Sherbyn Ostrich informed us that this was to be but the first of several meetings of this kind and that if we could identify the issues and propose solutions; there would be others who would put into place the procedures for implementation and the time frame for those solutions.
