Conference highlights how oleochemicals touch many industries

Much like the larger chemical industry,the oleochemicals sector is an industry in transition.Suppliers and their customers are feeling the pressures of eroding sales and margins.Raw material shortages-and the resulting high prices-continue to plague the industry.The glycerine glut,high energy costs,and regulations the industry sees as distorting market competition are additional challenges.In spite of the difficulties confronting the industry,however,most speakers at the 2005 World Oleochemical Conference found reason for optimism.The meeting,which was held April 10-14 in Athens,Greece,drew more than 400 participants from 40 countries.Attendees heard from major global players who discussed the industry and its many markets,including food ingredients,biodiesel,lubricants,textiles,pulp and paper,home care and personal care.
