Tall building construction is on the increase in all the metropolis. These buildings are subjected to adverse effects of wind and earthquake forces due to increased height. For analyzing the frames for internal forces, approximate methods are restored to. Importance of the approximate methods and the justification for using the same in lateral load analysis have been expounded in reference. Multistorey building design is an iterative process. Several alternatives have to be examined for evaluating the best member dimensions. For arriving at the optimal sizes, judicious choice of a method for preliminary design curtails the number of cycles facilitating easy reach of the final solution in one or two repetitions. For this purpose, the following approximate methods are invoked.
