Our patient required surgical therapy due to ulceration, inflammation and infection secondary to massive soft-tissue calcification. This is in accordance with Mendelson and colleagues, who considered surgical excision in the case of intractable ulceration and disability from pain or infection.5 Despite the fact that surgical excision can facilitate significant symptomatic relief, the underlying disease or its tendency to form calcified tissue is not being modified in any way.
