摘要

According to the Literacy Foundation, 49% of Quebeckers have difficulty reading, it's all the more problematic in the province's textile sector, where 33% of workers have no diploma or certificate—a situation that can't help but impact such factors as worker mobility and preparing the future workforce. To alleviate the problem, CSMO Textile made a funding request for in-house training aimed at giving workers basic skills. The two-year project has been a resounding success in four companies now, where more than 50 workers are taking lessons in reading, writing, reading comprehension, mathematics, and more. These adult trainees can even obtain their high school diploma equivalence or the credits they need for occupational training. It's a great opportunity for employees, whose newfound knowledge translates into higher productivity and opens up the possibility of applying for skilled jobs.
