Omaha seeks permits for 600-MW plant

For the first time in more than two decades, the Omaha Public Power District is studying construction of a major coal-fired power plant.The OPPD board approved March 14 applications for environmental and siting permits for a 600-MW coal plant to be built adjacent to the existing 631-MW coal plant in Nebraska City.The board authorized management to submit permit applications to the Nebraska Power Review Board for construction of the new generating unit. Preliminary engineering studies also will be conducted.
