This article discusses the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of pentoxifylline. Several studies on the use of pentoxifylline in man, livestock, companion animals and poultry are reviewed. The side effects of this drug are also presented. Pentoxifylline appears to have great promise in the treatment of many disease states, including dermatologic disease, ischaemia and reperfusion injury, late-term radiation injury and endotoxic shock.
