The Environmental Protection Agency has temporarily delayed the implementation of nutrient water quality standards for the state's waterways so it can conduct a scientific review. But don't think the agency is abandoning its plan to impose numeric standards, says Jerry Brooks, director of environmental assessment and restoration for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in Tallahassee. "I think what it reflects is that all of the comments [they received] back in January convinced them that what they put forth was just not scientifically supported," Brooks told attendees of the recent Citrus Industry Conference in Bonita Springs. He was referring to the hundreds of comments people submitted at public hearings and during a comment periodon the numeric standards between February and April.
