The 'Other' Europe: Economic development accelerates in Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia

Say the word "outsourcing," and most people in the United States will immediately think of Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai. But in Europe, a growing number of businesses and workers are thinking Warsaw, Prague, and Bratislava. As East Central Europe move into the more mature stages of economic transition, they are becoming increasingly lucrative destinations for a whole range of foreign direct investment - high-tech manufacturing, back-office operations, and even research and development. They offer high-skilled workers with similar cultural backgrounds at low wages - and they're literally in Western Europe's backyard.
