Correlation studies of quality parameters, seed yield and maturity period in clusterbean

A wide range of clusterbean [Cyamopsis tetragono-loba (L.) Taub] varieties were evaluated from 2000 to 2006 under dryland conditions to study the association patterns of quality parameters (gum and protein content) with seed yield and maturity duration. The study revealed that the early maturing varieties exhibited an advantage over the late maturing varieties under normal onset of monsoon with its early withdrawal. However, under the late onset of monsoon the distinction of genotypes based on maturity period diminishes as cluserbean basically a short day plant. The increased yield potential did not show the detrimental impact on gum or protein content. In general, a significant negative to low negative association was observed between protein and gum contents. Maturing period sometimes affected the gum content and protein content negatively and positively respectively.
