By August we had given up with honey and wanted to put the bees to bed. At the beginning of the season I had planned to move the strongest colonies onto double brood boxes and over the Summer had another colony, which had been fed back winter stores, producing new drawn deep combs. A few days before the rain set in we got outran extra deep box and smoked the first colony that was to be changed over to the new arrangement as well as the feeder hive. Once we had got started I decided that the existingbrood box should also be changed (thereby breaking the first law of beekeeping which is to only to do one task at a time). So a box was to be changed over and drawn combs were to be taken from a nearby feeder colony, and there was a super involved as well. It was all a bit complicated.
