TARC-JIRCAS 40th Anniversary International Symposium: A New Decade for International Agricultural Research for Sustainable Development

JIRCAS, which has its beginning as Tropical Agriculture Research Center (TARC) is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. To commemorate this occasion, JIRCAS has organized this international symposium with the support from related organizations (This symposium is partly organized as a project commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF). World agriculture (incl. forestry and fisheries) rapidly changes in response to global movements such as recent events of economicand food crises, strengthened measures for global warming, rapid growth of the emerging economies and so on. Regarding development strategies, the global development goals are doubtftil to be achieved and are supposed to be amended. The roles of agriculture for development, in contrast, have been re-evaluated.
