Fuel for the fire

Schade Lagertechnik, a subsidiary of the Aumund Group, has been supplying coal stacking and reclaiming equipment to the Chinese and Taiwanese power utilities markets since 1982. While the power sector is by far the largest user of coal, cement production also consumes a substantial tonnage. Some of the world's largest cement plants operate along China's Yangtze river, such as Asia Cement's Jiangxi Yadong plant, which has a projected production capacity of 5 million tpa. With plants often in areas of outstanding natural beauty, Asia Cement has gone to lengths to deliver not only world class performance, but also minimal visual intrusion. The Hualien plant demonstrates the company's commitment to high environmental standards (Figure 1). Wherever possible, this philosophy extends to the logistics surrounding the import of materials and fuels and the distribution of clinker and the finished product.
