In 2008, the globai financial crisis was underway and, amid uncertainty about the economy, the future viability of many mining operations was ambiguous - some even shuttering for a period of time. Jn order to continue operating profitably, the industry began to focus more on productivity and efficiency, with a move away from high grading and commodity extraction no matter the cost. Given the state of the economy, Genicom's theme for MINExpo 2008 was "Driving Productivity", and its presentations demonstrated how mining companies could use its technologies to do just that.
