How to get more out of your slurry

Buying new kit to apply slurry more effectively to grassland is expensive - but can the benefits make the investment worthwhile? The potential of muck and slurry to provide useful nutrients for grass growth is often underestimated or at worst ignored.Slurry applied to the surface of a field at 30t/ha in the spring has a fertiliser value of ￡41/ha. Dairy FYM applied at 20t/ha early in the year has a fertiliser value of ￡58/ha, and could supply a complete season's needs of P and enough K for first cut silage (See Table.)
