DOWN ON THE DAIRY FARM

A first-generation dairy farmer who started milking by hand and taking churns of milk out to the end of the lane by horse and cart. He now lists horses as one of his hobbies, along with classical music and trying to guess what Milk Marque will do next. The news has just told me that the cattle and sheep on the Island of Lundy are being evacuated by the Royal Marines. The Island is rapidly running out of water. How lucky we were to have had that thunderstorm and a couple of damp weekends. What is making me very envious when driving to town is a set aside field with a lot of ryegrass in it looking very dark green. It would keep my cows, at about ten paces a day, for a fortnight. That would see us past the August Bank Holiday, which is bound to be wet!
