Under a backdrop of declining conventional supplies and increasing North American gas demand, a new report summarizes supply options for the northeastern US and Canada. Consumption-which is driven mainly by natural-gas-fired power generation-is examined by analysts with Ziff Energy Group. The researchers forecast a 14.5 billion cubic feet/day (Bcfd) supply deficit for North America by 2015. This cannot be met with traditional supplies, thus northern gas and new LNG supplies will be required. Fig. 1 shows five LNG proposals in the US Northeast. The US LNG proposals, plus six in Eastern Canada, are part of the overall response required to meet the supply deficit, according to this analysis. The pie chart in Fig. 1 shows the region's gas consumption in Bcfd.
