摘要

The assumption that water run-off should be channelled off-site will become a thing of the past if a proposed bill, currently at the consultation stage, is made law. The bill is a response to Sir Michael Pitt's report on the floods during the summer of 2007 and to the Government's water strategy, both published last year, and will also update provisions in Wales. According to Defra minister Hilary Benn, its aim is "to help protect ourselves better from flooding, to manage water more sustainably and to improve services to the public".
