Anthemis

This superb retail plant brings long-lasting bursts of golden sunshine to garden borders and rockeries. Anthemis is an important member of the daisy family - significant for its use as a good retail plant and for use as a border or rockery plant. It is not used widely in landscape or amenity situations, however, because it is too high-maintenance. There are about 100 species in the genus and most are mat- or clump-forming annuals and perennials, though few are commonly seen in cultivation. Originallyfrom widely distributed habitats from Europe to North Africa and the Middle East, they nearly all appreciate well-drained, sunny positions. There are several popular forms, valued for their extended flowering season from late spring to late summer in borders and rock gardens. They are characterised by finely divided, hairy, aromatic foliage and solitary flowerheads, with yellow or white ray florets and yellow discs, which are produced freely.
